It was the busiest year to date for the free Arable Event, which was hosted by Wynnstay and GrainLink at Weston-under-Lizard on the Shropshire and Staffordshire border on June 20.
The one-day event shines a light on the industry featuring everything from trial plots to keynote speakers and the demonstrations of the latest technology and equipment.
The highest number of farmers ever joined in the trial plots tours, with a large audience watching demonstrations of the latest spraying equipment by RVW Pugh, Rea Valley Tractors, Battlefield Machinery and Edwards and Farmer and visiting the array of trade stands.
A packed marquee listened to Mark Berrisford-Smith, Head of Economics for Commercial Banking at HSBC UK, discussing the current prospects for the UK and what implications it will have on interest and exchange rates and its impact on agriculture.
Event manager Kelly Dolphin said the Arable Event continued to supply farmers with a one-stop shop for the latest industry developments.
In the past five years, the Arable Event has cemented its position as the go-to event for farmers in the Midlands, who want a comprehensive briefing about the issues and advances in the sector. This year more farmers than ever took advantage of the programme across the whole day including the free moisture meter check service and we’ll be looking to expand this service at next year’s event. It’s also a useful opportunity for farmers to gather CPD points from Basis and NRoSO. Feedback from farmers was incredibly positive and, during the coming months, we’ll be planning for next year so we continue to provide a day of activities that brings most benefit to arable farmers.
The 2019 Arable Event will be held on June 19. For more information, go to www.thearableevent.co.uk.
