The latest set of harvest data from the AHDB Recommended List trials show Surge to be the joint highest yielding 2-row feed barley so far.
The data, recorded from nine trial sites harvested across the UK, indicates that Surge has a mean yield of 105% – which is equal to KWS Orwell and 2% higher than the next highest yielding variety, California.
The results also demonstrate Surge’s consistency across various seasons, as it is averaging 103% for yield from the 2012-2016 annual results – compared to California at 99%.

Richard Torr, Wynnstay Seed Sales Manager explains that Surge has looked well in trials and on-farm in the past few months. “It’s pleasing to know that it has also performed in terms of its harvest results. Surge is delivering on yield, while providing growers with the security of an excellent disease portfolio – making it a very attractive option in a more volatile market.”
