At the time of writing in early July, nitrogen prices are remaining firm and are expected to rise further in the weeks ahead. As always, I would advise keeping in contact with your Wynnstay Specialist or the Fertiliser Office for the latest market updates.
The price of phosphate has also risen in the last few months with this increase filtering through to the NPK prices. At the end of June CF issued their ‘New Season’ prices which saw an increase in compound prices between £10 and £15 per tonne.
The current extremely hot and dry weather across the whole of the UK is having an impact on crops. Grass growth has been severely restricted at a time when farmers would be looking to maximise grazing and silage, after the extended winter depleted on farm stocks of forage. At the first sign of the weather breaking getting the right fertiliser will be crucial to make up for lost production.
