Arable and Forage resolutions for 2018: Part 3

In part 3 of our New Year’s Resolutions blogs for 2018, the Arable & Forage Inputs Team look to the coming year – highlighting their top tips for increasing productivity and making margins in 2018.

Forward planning

  1. Order early

Richard Torr (Seed Sales Manager) “As we head into 2018, my advice to growers would be to look at buying their seed for the spring sooner rather than later. The low yielding spring crops, late harvest and germination problems experienced this year have all had a significant impact on seed availability – particularly where cereals, pulses and wholecrop are concerned. I would therefore advise growers to think about your spring plans as early as possible and place an order to ensure that they have access to the varieties that you are interested in.”

Joe Wood (Arable Specialist) “The benefits of forward planning and ordering early, doesn’t just apply to spring seed this season. Ordering your other inputs such fertiliser, silage additive, ag-chem and forage seed ahead of when you need them, means that you will be ahead of the game in terms of both availability and delivery. This also means that you will be ready to go with drilling or applications when the weather is right.”

  1. Tailored to you

Paul Crump (Arable Trade Manager) “Bespoke planning – When it comes to maximising both productivity and quality of crops, it’s important to focus on your business’ needs and requirements and create a bespoke, forward plan which suits you. The team at Wynnstay can work with you to make sure all factors are taken into consideration and will cover the most cost-effective options for seed, crop nutrition, crop protection and harvest management heading into 2018.”

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We look forward to working with you again in 2018.
